Organizers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have announced eight stadiums that will be used for the games. This will be the fewest number of stadiums used in a World Cup since the 1978 edition in Argentina. Some of the stadiums are designed as shipping containers and one is based on a Middle Eastern woven cap.
The tournament will be held in November and December. The tournament will start with the opening ceremony, a recitation of the Quran, and the match between Qatar and Ecuador. The tournament will conclude with a final on 18 December at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Doha.
The tournament will be held in eight groups of four teams. Each group will play the other three teams in the group in a round-robin format. The four teams that qualify will advance to the knockout rounds.
England will start the tournament with a match against Iran on the second day of the tournament. England and the United States have a similar head-to-head record, but the USA is favored to advance to the knockout rounds.
Ecuador and Holland will play in the second group A match. Both teams will be looking to maintain their perfect start. In Group C, Saudi Arabia will take on Argentina. Argentina is expected to be a tough match for the Saudis. They are heavy underdogs going into the match. They had won three games at the World Cup in their last five appearances.
